Born on August 5, 1995, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and raised in Langley, Georgia Ellenwood established her presence in track and field from a young age. She made her international debut for Canada at the 2011 Youth World Athletics Championships, where she placed 12th in the heptathlon and was the top competitor in the 200m and 100m hurdles. That same summer, she secured the U18 Canadian title. Continuing her progression, she competed at the Junior World Athletics Championships in 2012, finishing 18th, and in 2014, improved to seventh place. In 2013, Ellenwood earned the Canadian junior title and a bronze medal at the Junior Pan American Championships. Her senior international debut occurred in early 2016 at the World Indoor Championships, where she achieved a ninth-place finish in the pentathlon. Despite breaking her foot in 2017, which led to missing the outdoor season, Ellenwood made a significant return in 2018. This year marked a peak in her career, as she won her first Canadian senior heptathlon title and the Pan American Cup, in addition to winning the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships while competing for the University of Wisconsin.
Ellenwood’s collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin was particularly notable, where she earned the distinction of an eight-time All-American. She set school records in both the heptathlon with 6173 points and the pentathlon with 4392 points. In 2018, as a senior, she was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year. Her talent also led her to represent Canada at the 2015 Universiade, where she finished fifth in the heptathlon. In 2019, she participated in the Hypo-Meeting in Götzis, Austria, returning in 2021 to secure an 11th-place finish. In June 2021, Ellenwood achieved a personal best in the heptathlon, scoring 6314 points at a meeting in Ratingen, Germany, fueled by personal bests in javelin, 100m hurdles, and 800m. She made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, achieving a personal best in the high jump and finishing within the top 20.
Her achievements include a gold medal at the 2018 Pan American Combined Events Cup and a bronze at the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships in the heptathlon. At the 2016 NACAC U23 Championships, she earned a bronze in high jump and placed fifth in long jump. Ellenwood’s journey from a promising junior athlete to an Olympic competitor highlights her dedication and consistent performance in combined events.
