A recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, Harmanpreet Kaur captains the India women’s national team across all formats and leads the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League. Her international career began with her One Day International (ODI) debut in March 2009 against Pakistan during the World Cup, where she bowled four overs for only 10 runs. She made her Twenty20 International (T20I) debut in June 2009 at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 against England, scoring 8 runs off 7 balls. Demonstrating her power-hitting prowess early on, Kaur scored a quick-fire 33 runs against England in a 2010 T20I match in Mumbai.
Her strong performances continued, notably securing a series win in Australia in January 2016, with 89 runs and seven wickets during the 2016 ICC Women’s World Twenty20. In July 2017, she delivered a career-defining 171 (115 balls) against Australia in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup semi-final, the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Women’s Cricket World Cup history, propelling India to the final. She received the Arjuna Award in 2017 and was named in the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year. In October 2018, she became the first Indian woman to score a century in WT20Is, with 103 runs from 51 balls in the opening match of the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, and by 2019, the first Indian cricketer to play 100 T20 internationals.
Harmanpreet Kaur continues to lead with distinction, notably as captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League.
