Harold Ramirez

Harold Andres Ramirez was born on September 6, 1994, in Cartagena, Colombia. His mother, Celina, a former third baseman, introduced him to baseball at age three, fostering his early development in the sport. Ramirez signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as an international free agent in July 2011, beginning his professional career in 2012 with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast Pirates. He progressed through the Pirates’ minor league system, playing for the Jamestown Jammers, West Virginia Power, and Bradenton Marauders. In 2015, the Pirates added him to their 40-man roster. In 2016, during his first season with the Double-A Altoona Curve, Ramirez was selected for the Eastern League All-Star Game, where he had been batting .300/.355/.401 in 70 games.

Ramirez was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on August 1, 2016, and played for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He later signed a minor-league contract with the Miami Marlins in November 2018, making his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut on May 11, 2019. In his rookie season with the Marlins, he demonstrated his offensive capabilities, tying a club record for walk-off home runs in a single season. After stints with the Marlins, he was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Indians in February 2021. He also represented Colombia in the World Baseball Classic.

In March 2022, Ramirez was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, where he had a breakout season, batting .300 in 120 games and setting career highs in hits, doubles, and RBIs. He continued to perform strongly in 2023, setting new career highs in multiple offensive categories, including a .313 batting average. His 11 hits as a pinch-hitter set a single-season team record for the Rays. Ramirez joined the Washington Nationals in June 2024 and later the Atlanta Braves organization in August 2024. He continues to play internationally, representing Colombia and participating in winter leagues in Mexico and Venezuela.
