Helen Glover is a celebrated British professional rower and a prominent member of the Great Britain Rowing Team. Ranked the number one female rower in the world from 2015 to 2016, she has etched her name in rowing history as a two-time Olympic champion, triple World champion, and quintuple World Cup and European champion. Glover, alongside her partner Heather Stanning, dominated the women’s coxless pairs, setting numerous records while clinching Olympic, World, and European titles.
Glover’s Olympic journey began at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she and Stanning made history by winning the gold medal in the women’s coxless pairs. This marked the inaugural gold medal for Team GB at the London Games and was a landmark moment for British women’s rowing. In December of that year, she further showcased her versatility by winning the BBC Olympic Superstars game show, adding to her growing list of accolades.
In the following years, Glover continued to break barriers. At the 2013 World Rowing Championships, she claimed her first world title with Polly Swann, and in 2014, she became the first woman to hold the Olympic, World, and European titles for the coxless pair. She retained her world title with Stanning in both 2014 and 2015, culminating in a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
After her Olympic triumph, Glover retired to focus on family life, but her legacy as a pioneering athlete and role model for future generations of rowers endures, inspiring many to pursue excellence in sport.
