One of the best shooters in the game, Helen Housby is an English netball player and key member of the Commonwealth gold medal winning England netball team that won against Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth games. She currently plays for New South Wales Swifts, and previously played for Superleague team Manchester Thunder. She has played for England in two Netball World Cups and already has an impressive 58 caps to her name.
Born in Carlisle, Housby rose rapidly to prominence in the sport, starting off playing occasional quarters for Manchester Thunder in 2013 before becoming a regular player for the side in 2014. Housby soon impressed for the team, demonstrating her incredible shooting accuracy, top-class positional play and phenomenal stamina in each match she played in.
Performing at the top of her game under immense pressure, she scored a long-range winner in the final second of the Superleague final against rivals Surrey Storm, helping her team bag their second title in three years and earning herself player of the match and player of the season awards.
It was no surprise when Housby was called up to the national side in 2014, and she quickly made an impact notching up 100% and 96% shooting accuracy in her first two England matches.
In 2018, she was thrust into the limelight when she scored in the final second of the gold medal match against Australia to help her national side win gold, and the team went on to scoop two BBC Sports Personality awards for their achievements.
