One of triathlon’s exciting young prospects, French triathlete Léo Bergere is one to watch at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021. He began 2019 with a strong start after finishing in fourth place at the World Triathlon Series (WTS) season opener in Abu Dhabi, followed by a second top five finish at the individual WTS in Hamburg. Bergere was also a key part of the French Mixed Relay team who defended their world title at the 2019 Hamburg ITU Triathlon Mixed Relay World Championships.
At the start of 2020 Bergere was the youngest member of the French men’s triathlon team, and with a bright future ahead of him he is now training for his chance to reach the podium in Tokyo in 2021.
Bergere had a unique upbringing split between France and the jungles of New Caledonia, spending time living with a local tribe and connecting with nature. The promising athlete believes these positive experiences have given him a unique advantage and benefit his training day by day. He discovered triathlon when he was 15, and in a meteoric rise to the top won European Championship gold as a member of the French Junior Mixed squad. After finishing on the podium in the Chicago Junior World Championships, he made an impact on the World Cup scene with impressive performances throughout 2016.
Since then Bergere has gone from strength to strength, and his strong performances in 2019 have proved that the talented young Frenchman is one to watch.
