Born on July 4, 1965, in Augusta, Georgia, Horace Junior Grant Sr. established himself as a prominent figure in professional basketball. He attended Clemson University, where he excelled in college basketball. Notably, in 1987, Grant became the first player in ACC history to lead the league in scoring (21.0 average), rebounding (9.6), and field goal shooting (70.8 percent). His performance earned him the ACC Player of the Year award, a first for a Clemson player, and he led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament. These early achievements laid the foundation for a successful NBA career.

Grant was drafted by the Chicago Bulls as the 10th overall pick in the 1987 NBA draft. He quickly became a key player, contributing significantly to the Bulls’ historic three consecutive NBA championships from 1991 to 1993, playing alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Known for his defensive prowess, he was selected four times for the NBA All-Defensive Team. After Jordan’s initial retirement, Grant became the Bulls’ second star behind Pippen, achieving career-best averages in scoring (15.1), rebounding (11.0), and assists (3.4) during the 1993-94 season, a year he also earned an NBA All-Star selection.

Following his time with the Bulls, Grant joined the Orlando Magic as a free agent in 1994, helping them reach the NBA Finals in 1995. He continued his career with stints at the Seattle SuperSonics and two separate periods with the Los Angeles Lakers. With the Lakers, he secured his fourth NBA championship in the 2000-01 season. Grant retired from professional basketball in 2004, concluding an 18-year career marked by consistent performance and significant team achievements. Post-retirement, he has served as an NBA Goodwill Ambassador and currently holds the position of Special Advisor to the President and Chief Operating Officer of the Chicago Bulls since 2016.
