Hubert Davis

Hubert Davis has transitioned from a successful NBA player and analyst to a highly regarded college basketball coach, leading the University of North Carolina with a modern approach rooted in tradition. After a distinguished collegiate career at the University of North Carolina, Hubert Davis was selected as the 20th overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. He finished as UNC’s career leader in three-point percentage at .435, with 1,615 career points (11.8 PPG average). In his senior year, Davis averaged 21.4 points, earned second-team All-ACC honors, and set a career-high with 35 points against Duke in March 1992.

In 2012, Davis returned to the University of North Carolina, joining the coaching staff as an assistant under Roy Williams, concurrently serving as head coach for the UNC junior varsity program from 2013 to 2019. On April 5, 2021, Davis was named the 20th head coach of the UNC men’s basketball program, making history as the first Black head coach in its history. Most recently, Davis led the Tar Heels to an ACC regular-season title in 2024, earning him the 2024 ACC Coach of the Year award and recognition as a Naismith Coach of the Year Semifinalist.
