Hugo Hadrien Dominique Lloris was born on December 26, 1986, in Nice, France. His early athletic endeavors included competitive tennis before he focused on football, joining OGC Nice’s youth academy at age ten. He made his professional debut with Nice in October 2005 at 18, playing a key role in the club’s run to the 2006 Coupe de la Ligue final. Over three seasons with Nice, he recorded 30 clean sheets in 78 appearances, contributing to the team’s strong defensive performance.
In 2008, Lloris moved to Olympique Lyonnais, where he secured the starting goalkeeper position and the number 1 shirt. During his time at Lyon, he was named the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year three times (2009, 2010, 2012) and contributed to Lyon reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time. In 2012, he joined Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He made over 400 appearances for the club and was named captain in 2015, leading the team to a UEFA Champions League runner-up finish in 2019. Lloris also has a distinguished international career, representing France across various youth levels and making his senior debut in 2008.
As captain of the French national team, Lloris led France to two consecutive World Cup finals, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup and finishing as runner-up in 2022. He holds the record for most appearances for France with 145 international caps and has appeared in the most FIFA World Cup matches by a goalkeeper (20). In 2024, Lloris joined Major League Soccer club Los Angeles FC, continuing his career on the international stage. His career highlights include a French Cup win with Lyon in 2012, an EFL Cup runner-up finish with Tottenham in 2015 and 2021, and a U.S. Open Cup win with Los Angeles FC in 2024.
