Hunter Emery is an experienced and versatile American actor who endeared himself to television fans with the role of prison officer Rick Hopper in Orange Is the New Black, a comedy-drama series that remains the most-watched Netflix original series. After joining the cast for the show’s fifth season, he appeared in more than 30 episodes across the three seasons. As well as breaking streaming records, the show also has the distinction of being the first to be nominated in both the comedy and drama categories at the Emmys (of which it has won several).
Emery was born in 1986 and hails from Boulder, a Colorado town that sits in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. He made his movie debut in Black Site, a hard-hitting 2009 drama based on America’s War on Terror. There followed several years of one-off roles as he built up his resume, appearing in the likes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Blue Blood, Unforgettable, The Affair, and more. 2017 proved to be his breakthrough year when he was cast in Orange Is the New Black, his first recurring role. That same year, he also appeared in two episodes of Gone, an international police drama that aired in America, France, and Germany.
2018 marked Emery’s first venture into the world of video games as he voiced the character of O’Driscolls in Red Dead Redemption 2, a game that enjoyed the second-biggest launch ever recorded in the whole entertainment industry, selling over 30 million copies and taking over $700 million in sales during its first weekend.
