Known for his positive and socially conscious music, Byiome Muir, better known as I-Octane, is a Jamaican reggae dancehall recording artist. Muir rose to prominence in 2007 with the roots reggae track “Stab Vampire,” which topped several Jamaican charts. In 2009, he topped the charts again with his emotional songs “Mama You Alone” and “Lose A Friend”, and the latter of which was later adapted as a tribute to those who died during the police manhunt for Christopher “Dudus” Coke in Tivoli Gardens.
In 2010, Muir grew in popularity because of a string of Cashflow Records successes, including “No Love Inna Dem” and “Puff It,” a cannabis anthem that was selected as one of NPR’s Top 5 Dancehall Tracks of 2011. He topped the charts once more with the meditative “My Life,” produced by DJ Frass. Also in 2011, he launched his own record label, Conquer The Globe Productions. Crying To The Nation, his debut album, was released in February 2012. Muir followed up the album with a tour of the United States, Canada, and Europe, and ended the year on a high note with a string of hit singles.
In March 2013, Muir was named as the brand ambassador for S. M. Jaleel and Company’s Caribbean soft drink Busta. Tad’s International Records released his second album, My Journey, in March 2014, which was produced by DJ Frass. Muir has been the Golden Eagle Brand Ambassador in Jamaica since 2015. His Love and Life album was released in March 2018 and debuted at #3 on the reggae Billboard chart for three weeks. In 2021, he released the album Moods, and the following year released both the album I Am Great and the single “Sorry.”
