Iain Armitage

Iain Armitage was born on July 15, 2008, in Georgia, U.S. to theater producer Lee Armitage and Scottish actor Euan Morton. His maternal grandfather is Richard Lee Armitage, former United States Deputy Secretary of State. Armitage started his career at a very young age, initially gaining recognition for his YouTube series “Iain Loves Theatre,” where he reviewed musical theater shows. This early exposure led to attention from the theater industry and offers from agents, and he even served as a correspondent for Perez Hilton at the 2015 Tony Awards.

Armitage’s acting debut came in January 2017 with an appearance in the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” episode “Chasing Theo.” That same year, he secured a significant role as Ziggy Chapman in the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries “Big Little Lies” (2017–2019), starring alongside notable actresses. He also appeared in films such as “The Glass Castle” (2017), “I’m Not Here” (2017), and “Our Souls at Night” (2017), where he shared the screen with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. His career accelerated further in March 2017 when he was cast as the titular character, a young Sheldon Cooper, in “Young Sheldon” (2017–2024), a successful prequel to “The Big Bang Theory.” He later made a crossover appearance in “The Big Bang Theory” in 2018. Beyond live-action roles, Armitage has lent his voice to animated projects, including young Shaggy Rogers in “Scoob!” (2020) and Chase in “PAW Patrol: The Movie” (2021).

Since the conclusion of “Young Sheldon” in 2024, Armitage has been focusing on personal pursuits, such as working towards his pilot’s license. He continues to engage in auditions and maintains connections with former co-stars, indicating continued involvement in the industry. There are ongoing discussions about a third season of “Big Little Lies,” a project Armitage has expressed interest in rejoining.
