Iain De Caestecker

Iain De Caestecker was born on December 29, 1987, in Glasgow, Scotland. Both of his parents are medical doctors, with his mother, Dr. Linda De Caestecker, serving as the Director of Public Health for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and an honorary professor at the University of Glasgow. He attended Hillhead Primary School and later completed an HND in Acting and Performance at Langside College. De Caestecker made his acting debut at age nine in the BBC short film ‘Billy and Zorba’ and subsequently appeared as a bully in ‘The Little Vampire’ in 2000.

His early career included a recurring role as Adam Barlow in the long-running UK soap opera ‘Coronation Street’ from 2001 to 2003, appearing in 54 episodes. He gained further recognition for his lead roles in two BBC series in 2011: the BAFTA-winning ‘The Fades’ and ‘Young James Herriot’, which earned him a BAFTA Scotland nomination for Best Actor/Actress – Television. In 2013, he achieved his second BAFTA Scotland nomination for Best Actor/Actress – Film for his role in ‘Not Another Happy Ending’. That same year, he joined the cast of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ as Leopold Fitz, a role he maintained as a main cast member for six seasons and as a special guest star in the final seventh season, totaling 122 episodes. He also worked on the psychological horror film ‘In Fear’, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

De Caestecker’s film career also includes ‘Filth’ (2013) and a lead role in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, ‘Lost River’ (2014), which was selected for the 67th Cannes Film Festival. In 2018, he co-starred in the J.J. Abrams-produced science fiction war film ‘Overlord’. More recently, he appeared in the BBC One miniseries ‘Us’ and the political-thriller ‘Roadkill’ in 2020. In 2022, he starred in the BBC One drama ‘The Control Room’ and in 2023, he played Arthur Pendragon in ‘The Winter King’. He is also set to appear in ‘The Undertow’ and is directing and writing the short film ‘A Means to an Ending’.
