The versatile and talented Jacob Vargas is an award-winning actor and dancer best known for his portrayal of Tony in the hit Netflix sitcom, Mr. Iglesias. He also writes and produces through his production company, Third Son Productions.
Born in Mexico and raised in California, Vargas began his acting career when he was discovered breakdancing in a schoolyard at the age of 12. His introduction to acting came with a bit part as a breakdancer on the hit TV sitcom, Diff’rent Strokes, and from then on he was determined to forge a career in front of the camera. His first big part came in 1986 when he secured a role in the TV series, Hunter. Since then he has gone on to forge a prolific career, and his TV credits include Sons of Anarchy, Luke Cage, Hand of God, and Mayans M.C.. His movie career proved to be even more successful, and in 1995 he won the very first ALMA Award (for Emerging Artist of the Year) for his work in both 1993’s Mi Vida Loca, and 1995’s My Family. He has appeared in countless other films, most notably Get Shorty (with John Travolta and Gene Hackman), in Steven Soderbergh’s Oscar-winning drama Traffic (which earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award and another ALMA Award), Next Friday (with Ice Cube), in Sam Mendes’s war drama Jarhead, and in Flight of the Phoenix (with Hugh Laurie).
