Professional ice hockey veteran Jamal Mayers has led an impressive 15 season career in the NHL, ending it off with a bang in 2013 by winning the coveted Stanley Cup. The Canadian has played for many teams in the league, his longest stint being with the St. Louis Blues from 1993 to 2003. Since his retirement from the ice in 2013 Jamal has expanded his passion for and knowledge of the sport into the commentating and analytics realm.
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada the right winger was naturally born with ice hockey running through his veins. Jamal attended and was a star player at Western Michigan University from 1992 to 1996, and no one was surprised when he was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 1993 NHL Draft. The star player competed with the Blues for 10 whole seasons. 2008 saw the end of his time with the team when he was traded back to his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. After two seasons Jamal went to the Calgary Flames, the San Jose Sharks the following year and finally the Chicago Blackhawks in 2011. It was with the Blackhawks that Jamal finally got his hands on the Stanley Cup in 2013, ending his illustrious career on a high.
Throughout his NHL success Jamal also represented Canada multiple times in the IIHF World Championships. In 2007 the team won gold in Moscow, and silver the following year. Since 2014 the ice hockey superstar has been a pre-game, post-game and intermission commentator for the Chicago Blackhawks on NBC Sports Chicago, as well as an ice hockey analyst for the NHL Network.
