Technology expert James Lyne has made it his mission to educate the world on the threats posed by cyber criminals. An authority on information security Lyne wants to make the confusing world of online crime accessible and interesting so that others can protect themselves. This self-professed ‘massive geek’ has led major research into viruses, malware, hacking and malicious code and develops technology strategies to address new and evolving threats.
Lyne is currently the Global Head of Research at British online-security firm Sophos, an award-winning provider of next level virus protection and firewall software, and is a Certified Instructor at the SANS Institute, a US based organisation that provides instruction on network defence, digital forensics and information protection.
As an authority on the subject Lyne has now founded his own company, Helical Levity, a research firm that develops tools to help in the ongoing battle against cyber-crime and mentor others breaking into the industry. An engaging and lively presenter Lyne specialises in live demonstrations that reveal how cyber criminals operate in the real world and exposes common mistakes and technical vulnerabilities. Lyne regularly appears on TV to discuss data breaches and cyber-crime including Sky, Newsnight, BBC News, Bloomberg and CNN and in 2013 was a featured speaker at an official TED Conference with his talk Everyday Cybercrime: And What You Can Do About It.
