About

Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on August 4, 1965, James Tupper pursued his education in acting, first at Concordia University in Montreal where he earned a BFA, and then at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he completed his Master of Fine Arts. His early career involved extensive work in off-Broadway theater productions, including successful runs in plays such as ‘An Actor Prepares’ and ‘After the Rain.’ Tupper’s transition into film began with appearances in movies like ‘Joe Dirt’ and ‘Corky Romano’ in 2001, followed by a co-writing and acting credit in the 2005 independent film ‘Loudmouth Soup,’ an experimental feature filmed in a single night without a script.

Throughout his career, Tupper has achieved significant recognition for his television work. He gained prominence for his role as Jack Slattery in the ABC series ‘Men in Trees,’ appearing in all 36 episodes from 2006 to 2008. Following this, he starred as Dr. Chris Sands in the NBC medical drama ‘Mercy’ for 22 episodes between 2009 and 2010. A pivotal role came with his casting as David Clarke in ABC’s ‘Revenge,’ where he initially featured in flashbacks and recurring segments before becoming a main cast member in the fourth season, appearing from 2011 to 2015.

More recently, Tupper has continued to take on notable roles in television, including the lead in the post-apocalyptic thriller ‘Aftermath’ in 2016, alongside then-partner Anne Heche, where he also served as co-producer. From 2017 to 2019, he held a supporting role as Nathan Carlson in the critically acclaimed HBO series ‘Big Little Lies.’ His film projects have included ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’ (2011), ‘Decoding Annie Parker’ (2013), and ‘The Requin’ (2022), demonstrating a consistent presence in both film and television over two decades.
