Jamie Vardy was born Jamie Richard Gill on January 11, 1987, in Sheffield. He began his senior football career with Stocksbridge Park Steels after being released by Sheffield Wednesday at age 16. He progressed through the ranks, making his first-team debut in 2006. In 2010, Vardy moved to FC Halifax Town, where he scored 25 goals in his debut season and helped the team win the Northern Premier League Premier Division title in 2010–11. His performance led to a move to Conference Premier club Fleetwood Town in August 2011, where he continued to demonstrate his scoring abilities with 31 league goals in his first season, contributing to the team’s promotion to the Football League.
Vardy’s career significantly advanced when he signed with Leicester City in the Championship in May 2012 for a non-League record transfer fee. He played a pivotal role in Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League in 2014. His most notable season came in 2015–16, when he scored in eleven consecutive Premier League matches, breaking a long-standing record, and was named the Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year as Leicester City unexpectedly won the Premier League title. He further cemented his legacy by winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2019–20 season, becoming the oldest player to receive the award.
Throughout his tenure at Leicester City, Vardy achieved further team success, including winning the FA Cup in 2021 and the FA Community Shield in 2021. He served as club captain during the 2023–24 season, leading Leicester back to the Premier League. Vardy concluded his 13-year career with Leicester City in May 2025, having scored 200 goals in 500 appearances for the club. He then joined Italian Serie A club Cremonese on a one-year contract in September 2025.
