About

Janice Dickinson was born on February 15, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York City, and later grew up in Hollywood, Florida. She began her modeling career in the early 1970s, moving to New York City after winning a national competition. Despite facing initial rejections from agents who considered her “too ethnic” in a fashion industry dominated by blue-eyed blondes, her unique appearance caught the attention of fashion photographer Jacques Silberstein. This led to her first agency signing with Wilhelmina Cooper, and her career quickly gained momentum in Paris, where her distinctive look was celebrated within the European fashion industry.

Returning to New York City in 1978, Dickinson established herself as a highly successful model, earning significant fees. She eventually joined Ford Models, a move that led to her orchestrating a defection of 20 Ford models to Elite Model Management, a rival agency. By the 1980s, Dickinson was recognized as a supermodel, appearing on numerous magazine covers, including international editions of Vogue 37 times, and Elle seven times consecutively. She worked with top fashion designers such as Bill Blass, Gianni Versace, Oscar de la Renta, and Calvin Klein, and became the face of major advertising campaigns for brands including Revlon, Christian Dior, Clairol, and Max Factor.

Her career expanded into television in 2003 as a judge on “America’s Next Top Model” for four cycles, where she was known for her direct critiques. In 2005, she opened her own modeling agency, which was chronicled in the reality series “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency” from 2006 to 2008. She has also appeared in various other reality television shows, including “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” (UK and US versions), “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” and “Celebrity Big Brother.” Dickinson has authored three autobiographical books documenting her experiences in the fashion industry and personal life.
