Jason Ralph

Jason Ralph was born on April 7, 1986, in McKinney, Texas, and later studied acting at Collin College before earning a BFA degree from the State University of New York at Purchase in 2010. In the same year, he co-founded the Strangemen Theater Company, now known as Strangemen & Co., with peers from Purchase College. As an artistic director, Ralph oversaw the production of several plays, including the Obie Award-winning production of “The Woodsman” by James Ortiz and Edward W. Hardy. Throughout the 2010s, Strangemen & Co. produced various off-Broadway productions, workshops, and an annual theater festival, also holding summer residencies at the Guild Hall of East Hampton in 2015 and 2018. Ralph continues to serve as the company’s Artistic Director and President.

Ralph began his on-screen career with roles in television series such as “The Good Wife” (2010) and “Gossip Girl” (2011), and later appeared in film projects like “Brightest Star” (2013) and “I’m Obsessed with You” (2014). A turning point in his film career came with his role as Ian Thompson in J.C. Chandor’s critically acclaimed film “A Most Violent Year” (2014), starring Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac. In 2015, Ralph took on the lead role of Quentin Coldwater in the Syfy fantasy drama series “The Magicians,” where he starred for five seasons until 2019, gaining significant recognition. During this period, he also had recurring roles in other major television productions, including “Madam Secretary” (2015) as Harrison Dalton, “Aquarius” (2015–2016) as Mike Vickery, WGN’s “Manhattan” (2015), and Paramount’s “Younger” (2018).

More recently, Ralph has continued to expand his acting portfolio with diverse roles. In 2020, he appeared in Charlie Kaufman’s film “I’m Thinking of Ending Things.” He joined the cast of the Emmy-winning series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” from 2022 to 2023, performing across 11 episodes as Mike Carr. His recent television work includes a recurring role as Aaron Knodel in the critically acclaimed limited series “Three Women” (2024), where he acted alongside Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin. On stage, Ralph was part of the Broadway and subsequent Off-Broadway casts of “Peter and the Starcatcher.” Post-pandemic, he produced and starred in “The Great Filter,” one of the first Off-Broadway plays to open.
