Javier Botet

Javier Botet López was born on July 30, 1977, in Ciudad Real, Spain. At the age of five, he was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that has contributed to his distinct physical attributes, including a tall and thin build, standing at 6 feet 7 inches, and notably long, slender fingers. These physical characteristics, combined with his interest in performance and fantasy, became instrumental in shaping his acting career.

Botet’s career began in 2005 with a role as a Humanoid in Brian Yuzna’s “Beneath Still Waters.” His first significant breakthrough came two years later when he portrayed Tristana Medeiros in Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza’s acclaimed horror film “REC” (2007). This role established his reputation for embodying terrifying and memorable creature characters within the horror genre. He continued to reprise his role as Niña Medeiros in “REC 2” (2009) and later appeared in the prequel “[REC] 3: Genesis” (2012) as the same character.

Throughout his career, Botet has become a sought-after talent for creature roles in major Hollywood productions. His notable filmography includes playing Mama in “Mama” (2013), multiple ghosts in Guillermo del Toro’s “Crimson Peak” (2015), the Crooked Man in “The Conjuring 2” (2016), Set in “The Mummy” (2017), and Hobo in “It” (2017) and its sequel “It Chapter Two” (2019). He also took on the titular role in “Slender Man” (2018) and depicted Dracula in “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” (2023). Beyond film, Botet has expanded his work to include theatrical performances, such as Frankenstein’s monster in 2010, and television appearances in series like “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Game of Thrones.”
