About

Jeffrey Ross Lifschultz, born on September 13, 1965, in Newark, New Jersey, began performing stand-up comedy in 1989 after attending a comedy class, quickly establishing himself at iconic New York clubs such as the Comedy Cellar and Stand Up NY. His early life in New Jersey, marked by the loss of both parents during his teenage years, contributed to the development of his sharp, observational style. A graduate of Boston University with a B.S. in broadcasting and film, Ross honed his comedic voice, which soon caught the attention of the New York Friars Club. He was invited to his first roast in 1995 for Steven Seagal, a pivotal moment that set the stage for his career as the ‘Roastmaster General’. This unique talent for insult comedy has since defined his public persona.

Ross’s career progression accelerated with his involvement in early televised roasts, including the Drew Carey Roast in 1998, which aired on Comedy Central. He became a staple at Comedy Central Roasts, participating in and producing numerous high-profile events for figures such as Pamela Anderson (2005), William Shatner (2006), Donald Trump (2011), and Tom Brady (2024). Beyond roasting, Ross has a diverse career in entertainment, acting in films like “Along Came Polly” (2004) and television series like “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (2003) and “Six Feet Under” (2002). His directorial debut, the 2005 documentary “Patriot Act: A Jeffrey Ross Home Movie,” chronicled his experiences entertaining U.S. soldiers in Iraq and won Best Film at the Comedia film festival.

Ross has consistently expanded his creative endeavors, authoring the book “I Only Roast the Ones I Love” in 2009 and creating and starring in “The Burn with Jeff Ross” on Comedy Central from 2012-2013. He demonstrated his commitment to social commentary through specials like “Jeff Ross Roasts Criminals” (2015) and “Jeff Ross Roasts Cops” (2016), engaging with challenging environments to deliver his humor. His recent Broadway debut with “Take A Banana For The Ride” in 2025 further showcased his versatility, blending comedy with reflections on personal loss. Ross’s ongoing contributions to comedy, both as a performer and producer, have solidified his place as a prominent figure in the industry.
