Jeremy Allen White was born on February 17, 1991, in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, Eloise Ziegler and Richard White, were both former actors. Growing up in Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, White initially pursued dancing, studying ballet, jazz, and tap. At 13, he shifted his focus to acting, attending the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan. After his training, he began his career with small roles in both film and television, beginning to establish his presence in the industry.
White’s breakthrough arrived in 2011 with his role as Phillip “Lip” Gallagher in the Showtime series “Shameless.” He portrayed the character for 134 episodes until 2021, earning a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination in 2014 for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. During his time on “Shameless,” White also appeared in films such as “Rob the Mob” (2014), “After Everything” (2018), and Dave Franco’s directorial debut, “The Rental” (2020).
In 2022, White took on the lead role of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the Hulu series “The Bear.” His performance as a troubled New York chef who returns to Chicago to manage his family’s restaurant garnered critical acclaim, earning him three consecutive Golden Globe Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Critics’ Choice Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. This role marked a significant turning point in his career and cemented his status as a leading actor. In 2023, he played wrestler Kerry Von Erich in “The Iron Claw,” receiving positive reviews.
