Jessica Pegula was born on February 24, 1994, in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Terry and Kim Pegula. Her tennis career began at age seven. She turned professional in 2009. Pegula made her Grand Slam singles debut at the 2015 US Open, where she advanced through qualifying and won her first main draw match. In 2018, she reached her first WTA Tour singles final at the Tournoi de Québec, and by 2019, she secured her first WTA Tour title at the Washington Open, placing her within the top 100 rankings for the first time.
Pegula’s career progressed significantly in the early 2020s. She reached her first major quarterfinal at the 2021 Australian Open. Key milestones in 2022 included her first WTA 1000 title at the Guadalajara Open and achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 3. She also reached the French Open women’s doubles final that year, partnering with Coco Gauff. In 2023, Pegula became the world No. 1 in doubles, won the inaugural United Cup with the US team, and secured her second Canadian Open title. She also reached the WTA Finals championship match in singles.
The 2024 season saw Pegula defend her Canadian Open title and advance to her first Grand Slam singles final at the US Open, where she finished as runner-up. In 2025, she continued to expand her achievements by winning her first clay court title at the Charleston Open and her third title of the season at the Bad Homburg Open. She reached another US Open semifinal, demonstrating sustained performance at the highest levels of tennis. Throughout her career, Pegula has accumulated nine singles titles and seven doubles titles on the WTA Tour, highlighting her consistent presence and competitive skill.
