Jesus Trejo

Jesus Trejo, born in 1986 in Long Beach, California, is an American writer, comedian, and producer. He grew up as the only child of Mexican immigrant parents from Jalisco and Sinaloa, and was raised speaking Spanish. He attended Wilson High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from Cal State Dominguez Hills. Trejo began his stand-up comedy career in his early twenties, performing at The Comedy Store, where he initially worked the door and as a valet before becoming a paid performer. His early career saw him establish a presence in the Los Angeles comedy scene, setting the foundation for his future endeavors in television and writing.

Trejo’s career progressed with various acting and writing roles. He had a recurring role on the TBS sitcom “Sullivan & Son” from 2012 to 2014 as Javier. In 2018, he starred in the AARP documentary “Care to Laugh,” which chronicled his experience as a primary caregiver to his parents while simultaneously building his comedy career. From 2019 to 2020, he appeared as a recurring character, Mr. Trujillo, in the Netflix sitcom “Mr. Iglesias.” His first one-hour stand-up special, “Stay At Home Son,” premiered on Showtime in May 2020, exploring themes of his life as a first-generation Mexican-American. Additionally, he hosted and executive produced the web series “Tacos Con Todo” for First We Feast, where he explored the Los Angeles taco scene with celebrity guests.

In recent years, Trejo has expanded his creative output to include children’s literature and new television projects. He released his second comedy special, “Practicing,” on YouTube in 2023. That same year, he published his first children’s book, “Papá’s Magical Water-Jug Clock,” which honored his father’s profession as a landscaper. The book was published in both English and Spanish and earned him the Pura Belpré Children’s Author Award in 2024. Following the passing of his mother in 2023, he wrote his second children’s book, “Mamá’s Magnificent Dancing Plantitas,” released in September 2024, celebrating her love for plants. In 2024, Trejo also began hosting and producing the PBS series “Roots of Comedy,” traveling across the United States to highlight the lives and experiences of emerging comedians. He also had a minor acting role and served as a staff writer for Hulu’s “This Fool” from 2022 to 2023.
