About

Born on September 29, 1966, in Oakland, California, Jill Whelan began her acting career at a young age, appearing in local productions and television commercials. Her breakthrough role came at age 11 when she was cast as Vicki Stubing, the daughter of Captain Stubing, in the iconic American television series “The Love Boat.” She was initially a guest star before becoming a series regular, a role she maintained for six of the show’s nine seasons (1977–1986). During this period, Whelan also expanded her filmography with a notable role as Lisa Davis, a heart transplant patient, in the 1980 disaster comedy film “Airplane!”. Her early career was marked by consistent television appearances, including guest roles in shows like “Fantasy Island,” “Vegas,” and “Trapper John, M.D.,” as well as appearances on game shows such as “Family Feud” and “Super Password.” In the mid-1980s, she also served as a national spokeswoman for First Lady Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” anti-drug campaign.

After “The Love Boat” concluded, Whelan pursued new professional avenues. She moved to New York City and worked as an event producer at Madison Square Garden, focusing on setting up acts. In 1999, she transitioned into an investigative producer role at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles, further diversifying her media experience. Whelan later became a radio talk show host for Talk Radio 1210 WPHT in Philadelphia, demonstrating her versatility in different broadcasting formats. Her career also saw her return to television for special appearances, including a notable win of $57,000 for charity on “The Weakest Link” in 2001, competing against other 1970s TV stars. In 2013, she co-hosted “The Brian and Jill Show” with Brian Phelps, a program where they developed numerous improvisational characters and sketches.

Jill Whelan’s career highlights include her continued association with “The Love Boat” legacy. In 2015, she was appointed as a celebrations ambassador by Princess Cruises, a role that brought her back to the cruise industry setting that defined much of her early career. This position involves hosting “The Love Boat” themed cruises and representing the company’s celebration experiences. She has continued to act, write, and produce, with recent credits such as “Take It from the Top” (2017), where she served as writer and executive producer, and guest roles in series like “Criminal Minds” (2016) and “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2015). Whelan also owns an acting school in the Greater Philadelphia area, sharing her expertise with aspiring performers.
