Catherine Bach

Catherine Bachman, known professionally as Catherine Bach, was born on March 1, 1954, in Warren, Ohio. Her childhood included time spent on a ranch in South Dakota. After graduating from Stevens High School in Rapid City, South Dakota, in 1970, she briefly pursued drama studies at UCLA. Bach’s professional acting career began with her role in the 1973 Burt Lancaster murder mystery, “The Midnight Man,” where she played Natalie Claiburn. This was followed by her appearance as Melody in the 1974 film “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.”

Bach’s career reached a turning point when she was cast as Daisy Duke in the television series “The Dukes of Hazzard,” which aired from 1979 to 1985. Initially seeking a different look for the character, producers ultimately chose Bach, who famously wore her own homemade cut-off denim shorts to the audition, a style that became known as “Daisy Dukes.” During her time on the show, a poster of Bach as Daisy Duke sold 5 million copies. Her legs were notably insured for $1,000,000. Following “The Dukes of Hazzard,” she continued her acting work, appearing in various films and television series such as “African Skies” (1992–1994), where she played Margo Dutton, and later joined the cast of the CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless” in 2012 as Anita Lawson, a role she held until 2019.

Beyond her television and film roles, Bach ventured into other creative endeavors. In 1985, she served as the model for the figurehead of the schooner Californian. She also launched a line of diamond jewelry at Debenhams in 2002. Her career has spanned several decades, showcasing her versatility as an actress and her continued presence in the entertainment industry.
