Jim Jefferies

Geoff James Nugent, known professionally as Jim Jefferies, was born in Sydney, Australia in February 1977. He pursued musical theatre and classical music studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts before leaving prior to graduation. Jefferies began his stand-up comedy career in Sydney, later moving to the United Kingdom. He adopted the stage name Jim Jefferies to avoid confusion with another performer. His early comedic style utilized one-liners, which evolved into anecdotal humor as he progressed to hour-long sets. A notable early appearance was at the Birmingham Comedy Festival in October 2003.

Jefferies gained international recognition in 2007 following an incident where he was attacked on stage at the Manchester Comedy Festival; the footage of this event was incorporated into his 2008 DVD, “Contraband.” His debut HBO special, “I Swear to God,” released in 2009, introduced him to American audiences. He has since performed at prominent festivals such as the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Just for Laughs, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He has also featured on Comedy Central’s “The World Stands Up,” “Comedy Blue,” and “Edinburgh and Beyond.” In 2019, Jim Jefferies was honored as Stand-up Comedian of the Year at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.

Beyond stand-up, Jefferies created and starred in the FX sitcom “Legit” (2013–2014), which garnered positive feedback for its depiction of individuals with mental and physical disabilities. He also hosted “The Jim Jefferies Show” on Comedy Central from 2017 to 2019, a late-night series where he explored global culture and politics. In 2023, he began hosting “The 1% Club” in Australia. Jefferies has also ventured into film, appearing in “Me and My Mates vs the Zombie Apocalypse” (2015) and “Killing Hasselhoff” (2017). He co-hosted the podcast “Jim and Eddie Talkin’ Shit” from 2010 to 2012 and currently hosts “I Don’t Know About That” since May 2020.
