Jisoo Kim is a skeleton racer who represented the Republic of Korea at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. Kim came in a sixth place finish out of thirty competitors on home turf, putting skeleton racing on the map for South Korea with fellow MN2S talent and Olympic champion, Sung-Bin Yun.
Kim joined the national team back in 2014—a year after his first season competing. Since then, he’s participated in the most elite competitions in skeleton racing, such as the North America Cup, the Intercontinental Cup, the Skeleton World Cup, the Skeleton World Championships, and of course, the Olympic Winter Games.
When it comes to the North America Cup, Kim has racked up medals. Starting with the 2015/2016 season, he earned bronze at Park City and would return one year later to earn bronze there again. And then in the 2018/2019 season, he would upgrade his status to silver at the North America Cup—the same year he also podiumed bronze at the Intercontinental Cup. And in 2019, he graduated to gold, winning the Cup in Calgary for individual men.
And once he reached the 2018 Olympics, Kim had the second-fastest start at the Olympic Sliding Centre—only behind the eventual champion. His coach even said that if Kim had controlled his nerves, based off his practice, he could’ve very easily taken home bronze.
Currently, Kim is ranked as the 25th skeleton racer in the world by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation.
