Jnr Choi is a Gambian-born British-based rapper who shot from nowhere to the top of the American charts in late 2021 with his drill track, ‘To the Moon’. After going viral on TikTok, the track was given a major label release worldwide and topped the US Rhythmic Charts as well as making the Top 40 of the Billboard charts. At the time of writing, it has been streamed over 172 million times on Spotify and watched over 12 million times on YouTube (and that doesn’t include remixes).
‘To the Moon’ is built on a sample of Bruno Mars’ ‘Talking to the Moon’, as covered by Brighton singer-songwriter Sam Tompkins. The track was produced in August 2021 by London-based producer Parked Up and finished within 24 hours. It went off big time on TikTok and was released independently that November. Epic Records wanted a piece of the action and re-released it alongside remixes from the likes of Gunna, Russ Millions, and others. It made charts all around the world, making the top 10 in New Zealand, the top 20 in Belgium and Switzerland, and of course, enjoying huge success in America.
With such enormous success off the back of one track, Jnr Choi (who also models), is well placed for enduring musical success.
