About

Jonathan David Buck, known professionally as Jon B., was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and raised in Altadena, California. He comes from a musically inclined family, with his father being a music professor and his mother a concert pianist. His early exposure to music cultivated his talents, leading him to pursue a career in the industry. In 1992, his demo recordings captured the attention of Tracey Edmonds, then president and CEO of Yab-Yum Records, marking a significant turning point in his career.

Jon B. initially focused on songwriting, contributing to tracks for artists such as After 7, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, Color Me Badd, and the Spice Girls. His debut album, “Bonafide,” released in 1995, featured the hit singles “Pretty Girl” and “Someone to Love.” The latter, a collaboration with Babyface, achieved top-ten status on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. His subsequent album, “Cool Relax” (1997), was certified platinum by the RIAA, featuring successful singles like “Are U Still Down” with Tupac Shakur and “They Don’t Know.”

His career continued with the album “Pleasures U Like” in 2001, which reached the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart. Throughout the 2000s, Jon B. released several more albums, including “Stronger Everyday” (2004), “Holiday Wishes: From Me to You” (2006), “Helpless Romantic” (2008), and “Comfortable Swagg” (2012). In 2016, he received a state citation and a key to the City of Pawtucket from Rep. Carlos E. Tobon and Mayor Don Grebien, recognizing his contributions. In 2023, he announced a new collaboration with Tank, releasing the song “Waiting On You,” reinforcing his ongoing presence in the R&B music scene and a new album, ‘Waiting on You’ (2025).
