Jobe Watson

Jobe Watson, a three-time Crichton Medallist and two-time All-Australian, established himself as a prominent Australian rules footballer throughout his distinguished career. After being drafted by the Essendon Football Club under the father-son rule in 2002, Watson made his debut in Round 13 of 2003. He transitioned from a key forward to an elite midfielder, earning his first Crichton Medal, Essendon’s best-and-fairest award, in 2009. His leadership was recognized in 2009 when he was appointed captain of the club, a role he held through 2016.

Watson continued his exceptional form, securing his second Crichton Medal in 2010, followed by his initial winning of the prestigious Brownlow Medal in 2012. That same year, he earned his third Crichton Medal, was selected for the All-Australian team, and received the AFLPA Best Captain Award. Watson’s career saw further accolades, including a second selection to the All-Australian team and the Yiooken Award in 2013. He represented Australia in the International Rules Series in 2014 and played his 200th AFL game in 2015.

Demonstrating a keen aptitude for entrepreneurship, he established and managed various off-field businesses, including café-style venues, a gym, and a buyer’s advocacy business located in New York City. Additionally, Watson has shown a commitment to charitable causes, participating in events such as the ‘Big Freeze at the ‘G’ to raise money for the Cure for MND Foundation. Most recently, Watson has deepened his involvement in sports administration and coaching. In 2023, he served as the Senior coach of the Xavier College football team, further contributing to player development.

He continues to offer valuable insights to brands, leveraging his high-level sports administrative experience and in 2025, he was appointed to the prestigious Melbourne Demons head coach selection panel, underscoring his ongoing influence within the Australian football community.
