Joe Cheng

Joe Cheng, born on June 19, 1982, in Taichung, Taiwan, started his professional journey in the entertainment industry with Catwalk Modelling Agency. He quickly achieved success as a model within his first year, leading to appearances in various music videos, including one for Jacky Cheung. His acting career began in 2003 with a role as the second male lead in the Taiwanese drama series “The Rose,” which featured the band S.H.E. and actress Cecilia Yip. This role marked a turning point, propelling him into acting. In the same year, he made a guest appearance in the idol drama “Dance with Michael.”

Cheng took on lead roles in “Nine-ball” and “Magic Ring” in 2004. His breakthrough came in 2005 with the lead role of Jiang Zhishu in “Mischievous Kiss,” a series that achieved high ratings in Taiwan and widespread popularity throughout Asia. This production was his initial collaboration with actress Ariel Lin, forming an on-screen partnership that continued in the 2007 sequel, “It Started with a Kiss: They Kiss Again,” and “Love or Bread” (2008). In 2009, Cheng engaged in his theatre debut, “Design for Living,” alongside Sylvia Chang and David Wang, which toured across Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and Singapore. The same year, he released his debut EP, “Sing a Song.”

His career continued with further television roles, including “Love Actually” (2012) and “You Light Up My Star” (2014). In 2016, Cheng gained significant attention in China through his participation in the reality show “Race the World,” where he was frequently paired with Ariel Lin and ultimately secured first place. He has remained active in acting, with recent works including “You sheng zhi nian” and “Oh No! Here Comes Trouble,” both released in 2023. In 2024, he received the Golden Bell Award for Best Male Supporting Actor for his role in “Living.”
