Joseph Pera was born on July 24, 1988, in Buffalo, New York, and raised in the suburb of Amherst. He pursued his education in film at Ithaca College, where he consistently demonstrated his talent by winning the college’s stand-up competition three times before graduating in 2010. Following his graduation, Pera relocated to New York City to further his career in comedy, actively participating in open mic nights to refine his craft. His early work established a foundation for his signature calm delivery and observational humor.
Pera gained significant recognition for his work with Adult Swim, beginning with the 2016 special “Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep.” This led to further collaborations, including “Joe Pera Helps You Find the Perfect Christmas Tree.” These specials were instrumental in the development of his acclaimed Adult Swim series, “Joe Pera Talks with You,” which premiered on May 20, 2018. The series ran for three seasons, featuring Pera as a fictionalized version of himself who addressed mundane topics with a serene and reflective demeanor. The show received critical praise for its unique tone and writing, with The LA Times describing it as “TVs quietest, most artful comedy.” Pera also co-founded the production company Chestnut Walnut Unlimited with fellow comedian Conner O’Malley.
