Miranda McKeon is an American actress, born in New Jersey, recognized for her portrayal of Josie Pye in the Netflix series “Anne with an E.” Her acting career also includes a role as Julie Hanson in the 2016 film “Little Boxes.” Beyond her screen work, McKeon is a student at the University of Southern California, pursuing studies in communications and entrepreneurship. In college, she founded Fill Your Tank, a company that designs card games intended to foster connections among individuals. She actively manages the company as its CEO and President, overseeing product development, marketing strategies, and an internship program.
In 2021, at the age of 19, McKeon was diagnosed with stage III hormone-positive breast cancer. This diagnosis, rare for her age and without a family history of the disease, led her to undergo a comprehensive treatment plan. Her treatment included eight rounds of ACT chemotherapy, egg freezing for fertility preservation, a double mastectomy with reconstruction, and 25 sessions of proton radiation therapy. As of February 2022, she achieved remission. Miranda has openly shared her experiences, including the physical and emotional challenges such as medically induced menopause caused by hormone suppressants, through various media platforms including the talk show “Good Morning America.”
Following her recovery, McKeon has become a prominent advocate for breast cancer awareness, particularly for young adults. She utilizes her platform on social media, especially Instagram and TikTok, to share her journey, discuss cancer-related topics, and support the metastatic breast cancer community. Her advocacy efforts include collaborations with health organizations like Sientra Supports, where she participated in a 360-campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer and reconstruction, and co-hosting the #LightUpMBC Live event in support of METAvivor. She continues to balance her academic pursuits, entrepreneurial endeavors, and advocacy, finding strength in her resilience and aiming to inspire others facing similar health challenges.
