Joseph Harold Rose was born on June 24, 1957, in Marysville, California. He began his football career at Marysville High School, where he led Northern California in reception yardage during his senior year. He continued playing college football at the University of California, Berkeley, and became a notable player, scoring the game-winning touchdown pass in the 1979 Big Game between Cal and Stanford.

Rose was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round with the 185th overall pick of the 1980 NFL draft. He played six seasons for the Dolphins from 1980 to 1985, and one game with the Los Angeles Rams in 1987. His NFL career statistics include 112 receptions for 1,493 yards and 13 touchdown receptions. His most productive year was 1983, where he recorded 29 receptions for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns. A significant career highlight was catching Hall of Famer Dan Marino’s first-ever touchdown pass in 1983. After his playing career, Rose transitioned into broadcasting.

Following his retirement from professional football, Rose established a career as a radio broadcaster in the Miami area. He hosts a weekday morning wake-up show on WQAM 560 AM. Additionally, he serves as the color commentator for the Dolphins Radio Network broadcasts and previously worked as a sports anchor for WTVJ-TV in Miami.
