Joel Courtney was only 14 years old when his stars aligned.Visiting his actor brother, Courtney himself planned to audition for severalroles during his vacation and was advised to attend a secretive casting callfor a J.J. Abrams endeavour, as advised by his brother’s acting coach.Receiving eleven call-backs, Courtney was given his first acting gig as leadcharacter Joe Lamb in 2011 blockbuster Super 8, produced by Steven Spielberg.
An instant claim to fame, Courtney received the part of JohnWestmore in R.L. Stine’s fantasy drama The Haunting Hour and went on to play ayoung Tony Blank in hitman action thriller Spare Time Killers. Courtneyappeared in 2012 TV movie Rogue alongside Julian McMahon and subsequentlystarred in Giorgio Serafini’s 2013 fantasy horror movie Don’t Let Me Go,playing alongside upcoming young stars Natalia Dyer and Isabelle Fuhrman.
In 2014 Courtney was chosen to play lead character TomSawyer in the 2014 film adaptation of Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn, goingon to receive a lead role in fantasy drama series The Messenger the followingyear. Making a guest appearance in ABC and Marvel television production Agentsof S.H.I.E.L.D, he went on to play demanding lead roles in The River Thief, TVcrime drama APB and Romantic Comedy The Kissing Booth. With a huge amount ofacting experience at such an early age, Joel Courtney is undoubtedly on his wayto become one of the Hollywood greats.
