Star of stage and screen, David Whiteley is one of Australia’s great seasoned performers. Perhaps most widely known for his portrayal of Bill Hobart in the longstanding crime drama, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Whiteley has gone on to star in a series of diverse roles. From featuring as Phillip Quinn in Jack Irish season 2 to Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, Whiteley has become a celebrated household name over the years.
Reprising the well-loved role of Hobart for the mini-series The Blake Mysteries: Ghost Stories, Whitely earned an Equity Ensemble Award nomination. Highly versatile and a sought after artist, Whiteley has featured in the sci-fi drama Knowing, crime thriller Killer Elite and horror-mystery Crawlspace. His other credits include The Wrong Girl, Gallipoli, Conspiracy 365, City Homicide and The Hollowmen. With his roots in serialised soap dramas such as Neighbours and Victorian police drama Blue Heelers, Whiteley has come a long way since his formative years.
Away from the screen, Whiteley is a highly acclaimed founding member of Red Stich – the Actor’s Theatre based in Melbourne. Since the theatre’s opening night, Whiteley has featured in Harvest, Uncle Vanya, Ulster American, Wet House, Howie the Rookie and more. He has also starred in MTC’s The Other Place and the Pilot Theatre’s Closer. For over a decade (between 2005-2013), Whiteley was an Artistic Director for Red Stitch. Recognised for his chameleon-like ability to transform before an audience’s eyes, Whiteley continually pushes the limits of his craft.
