About

José Antonio Díaz, known as Joey “CoCo” Diaz, was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1963. He immigrated to the United States at age three, eventually settling in North Bergen, New Jersey. Diaz’s early life was marked by personal challenges, including the loss of his mother at age sixteen and periods of drug abuse and criminal activity. Despite these difficulties, he developed a significant interest in comedy, performing for fellow inmates during a prison sentence in 1988, which ultimately led him to pursue stand-up professionally in 1991. He refined his comedic approach in Denver and Seattle before moving to Los Angeles in 1995 to further his career.

Diaz has established a notable career in film and television, with his first feature film role as a referee in “BASEketball” (1998). His career progressed with appearances in “Analyze That” (2002), “Spider-Man 2” (2004), and “Taxi” (2004). A significant role came in “The Longest Yard” (2005), where his audition tape led to an expanded part. Other notable television appearances include “My Name is Earl” (2007), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2013), and “Maron” (2014-2016). He has also released a one-hour comedy special, “Sociably Unacceptable” (2016), which was available on Seeso and Comedy Dynamics.

Beyond acting and stand-up, Diaz has gained a substantial following through his podcasting endeavors. He co-hosted “Beauty and Da Beast” from 2010 to 2012. In 2012, he launched “The Church of What’s Happening Now,” which ran until 2020. Since then, he has hosted “Uncle Joey’s Joint,” continuing to connect with a broad audience through his candid storytelling and comedic discussions.
