John Bradley West was born in Wythenshawe, South Manchester, in 1988. He attended St Paul’s High School and Loreto College, Hulme, before pursuing higher education at Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2010, he graduated with a B.A. degree in acting. Shortly after graduating, Bradley secured a significant role through his college website, launching his career in television.
His breakthrough came with the prominent role of Samwell Tarly in HBO’s epic fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones,’ a character he portrayed for all eight seasons from 2011 to 2019. This role garnered him international recognition and provided extensive acting experience. Concurrently with ‘Game of Thrones,’ Bradley appeared in other television productions, including ‘Borgia’ in 2011 as Giovanni di Lorenzo de’ Medici and in two episodes of ‘Shameless’ in 2012 as Wesley. His early career also included a role in ‘Merlin’ in 2012 and a BBC Radio 4 play, ‘Closely Observed Trains,’ in 2015.
Bradley transitioned into film with roles such as Scooter in ‘Patient Zero’ (2018), and Dr. KC Houseman in Roland Emmerich’s disaster film ‘Moonfall’ (2022). He also played Colin in the romantic comedy ‘Marry Me’ (2022) and Richard Perks in ‘The Railway Children Return’ (2022). More recently, he has been seen as Max Drummond in the TV series ‘North Shore’ (2023) and Jack Rooney in ‘3 Body Problem’ (2024).
