John David Booty, born on January 3, 1985, in Shreveport, Louisiana, established his football career early at Evangel Christian Academy. He reclassified and graduated high school a year early, completing his high school career with 8,474 passing yards, 88 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. He led Evangel Christian Academy to state championship victories in 2001 and 2002. Booty then attended the University of Southern California (USC), joining a highly regarded recruiting class of 2003. He spent his initial years as backup quarterback to Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart. After redshirting his second season due to an elbow injury in 2004, and enduring back surgery in March 2006, Booty became the starting quarterback for USC in the 2006 season.
During his college career at USC, Booty was recognized as a top quarterback, earning a spot on the 2006 All-Pac-10 First-team by Rivals.com and Pacific-10 conference coaches. He led the USC Trojans to a victory in the 2007 Rose Bowl, where he threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns. Opting to return for his final year in 2007, he was considered a contender for the Heisman Trophy. Despite a broken finger in his throwing hand during the 2007 season, he returned to lead the Trojans to another Rose Bowl victory in 2008 against the Illinois Fighting Illini, setting a Rose Bowl record with seven career touchdowns in two Rose Bowl appearances and being named Offensive MVP. He finished his USC career with a 9-0 record against top-25 teams.
Booty entered the NFL draft in 2008 and was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round (137th overall). He spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the Vikings, primarily on the practice squad. After being released by the Vikings, he was signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad in October 2009. His professional career then continued with the Houston Texans, signing a future contract in 2010 before being waived during final cuts before the 2010 NFL season. Following his playing career, John David Booty transitioned into a role as a consultant.
