About

Born on February 6, 1966, in Los Angeles, California, John Hope Bryant began his entrepreneurial journey at a young age, starting his first business at ten with a $10 investment. He attended Hollywood Professional School and graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1984. Following the 1992 Rodney King riots, Bryant founded Operation HOPE, Inc. on May 5, 1992, an organization dedicated to financial literacy and economic empowerment. Through Operation HOPE, he has directed over $4.2 billion in capital to marginalized communities and established hundreds of financial empowerment centers nationwide. He also founded John Hope Bryant Holdings, Bryant Group Ventures, and Bryant Group Advisors. In 2021, he successfully recapitalized The Promise Homes Company with a $200 million credit facility.

Bryant’s influence extends to public policy and corporate America. He served as vice-chair of President Bush’s Council on Financial Literacy, a member of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability, and as chairman of its Subcommittee on the Underserved and Community Empowerment. His advocacy played a key role in making financial literacy official U.S. federal policy under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. In 2016, he led efforts to rename the U.S. Treasury Annex as the Freedman’s Bank Building, honoring Abraham Lincoln’s economic work for freed slaves. He is a prolific author with six books, including “Financial Literacy for All” (2024), and is a CNBC Contributor and host of the iHeart Radio podcast “Money & Wealth with John Hope Bryant.”

Recognizing the transformative power of artificial intelligence, Bryant has pioneered efforts to bridge the AI opportunity gap in underserved communities. In December 2024, he announced the AI Literacy Pipeline to Prosperity Project (AILP³) at the HOPE Global Forum, co-founded with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. AILP³ aims to equip these communities with AI literacy, workforce training, and digital skills, ensuring financial and technological literacy go hand in hand. In 2024, he also launched the Corporate Inclusion Initiative to promote qualified minority candidates on corporate boards and published “The Business Plan for America,” a blueprint for inclusive economic growth. Bryant’s achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including being named to the Forbes BLK50 List (2024) and TIME Magazine’s inaugural The Closers List, as well as Oprah Winfrey’s “Use Your Life” Award and American Banker’s “Innovator of the Year.” He resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife, Chaitra Dalton Bryant.
