His performances at Millwall attracted Bolton Wanderers, with the rising star eventually signing for the club and going on to become a legend. His frequent goals for Bolton led to him being nicknamed ‘Super John’. One of his most famous goals for the club knocked out the mighty Liverpool from the FA Cup. He also helped the Trotters to gain promotion from the third tier in 1993. The star scored the match winning penalty in the last fixture against arch rivals Preston North End in an iconic game.
