John Rice is the CEO and Founder of Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), a pioneering national non-profit organization dedicated to combating racial and economic disparities by empowering a new generation of diverse leaders. Since its inception in 2002, MLT has transformed the careers of thousands of people of color, significantly enhancing the leadership pipelines of influential organizations across the United States. Under John’s leadership, MLT has achieved remarkable results, driving economic mobility and fostering inclusive environments in workplaces nationwide.
At MLT, John has spearheaded acclaimed programs that prepare individuals of color for high-trajectory careers, providing them with essential social capital, coaching, and networks. These initiatives have not only elevated the professional trajectories of participants but have also equipped corporate and social sector organizations with comprehensive talent solutions that enhance recruitment, retention, and diversity strategies. Building on over 15 years of experience, John launched the MLT Black Equity at Work Certification, a groundbreaking standard for companies striving to achieve Black equity. This initiative reflects his commitment to creating measurable change within organizations, ensuring that they are held accountable for their diversity efforts. MLT currently serves over 8,000 students and professionals, partnering with more than 170 blue-chip companies, including Amazon, Google, and Deloitte.
Before founding MLT, John held executive roles with the National Basketball Association, where he managed NBA Japan and directed marketing for Latin America. He also worked at the Walt Disney Company in new business development. John’s influence extends beyond MLT; he serves on various boards, including Yale University’s Board of Trustees, and has been recognized as one of Forbes’ Top 30 social entrepreneurs.
