Jonathan Milan

Jonathan Milan was born on October 1, 2000, in Tolmezzo, Italy. His name was inspired by Richard Bach’s novella, “Jonathan Livingston Seagull,” a detail shared by his mother. Cycling is a family affair for Milan, as both his father, Flavio, and younger brother, Matteo, are also cyclists. Milan began his cycling career in youth categories, turning professional as an under-23 rider in 2019 with Cycling Team Friuli. During this early period, he demonstrated strong potential, notably becoming the national under-23 time trial champion in 2020.

Milan’s career has seen significant achievements across both track and road cycling disciplines. On the track, he gained international recognition by winning a bronze medal in the men’s team pursuit event at the 2020 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin. This was followed by a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (held in 2021) in the team pursuit, where he was part of the squad that set a new world record. He continued his track success with multiple medals at UCI World Championships and UEC European Championships, including a gold in the individual pursuit at the 2024 World Championships, again setting a world record.

His road cycling career advanced significantly when he joined Team Bahrain Victorious in 2021, marking his entry into the UCI World Tour. He secured his first professional road victories in 2022 with two stage wins at the CRO Race. The 2023 season was a breakthrough for Milan on the road, as he participated in his first Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia. He won stage two and secured the points classification. In 2024, Milan continued his impressive form, winning multiple stages across various races, including three stages and the points classification at the Giro d’Italia and two stages and the points classification at Tirreno-Adriatico. His strong performances led to a significant contract extension with Lidl-Trek, solidifying his position as a prominent figure in professional cycling.
