Wout van Aert was born in Herentals, Belgium, on September 15, 1994. His cycling career began in cyclocross, where he quickly gained recognition. Van Aert developed a notable rivalry with Mathieu van der Poel, which continues to captivate racing audiences. He secured victories in under-23 World and European cyclocross championships, establishing a foundation for his professional journey. In 2013, he started his professional career with Telenet–Fidea, later moving to Vastgoedservice–Golden Palace and Vérandas Willems–Crelan before joining Team Jumbo–Visma in 2019.
His transition to road racing in 2019 marked a significant turning point. Despite a career-threatening crash during the 2019 Tour de France, van Aert recovered to achieve numerous milestones. He won multiple stages in the Tour de France, notably securing the green jersey in the points classification in 2022. His Classics successes include victories at Milan–San Remo, Strade Bianche, Gent–Wevelgem, E3 Saxo Bank Classic, Amstel Gold Race, and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Van Aert has also earned Olympic medals, including a silver in the Men’s road race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a bronze in the time trial at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Van Aert’s career is defined by his versatility and strong performances across various cycling disciplines. Since joining Team Jumbo–Visma, he has consistently been a key rider, contributing to team successes while also building an impressive individual palmarès.
