With an Olympic gold medal and four World Championship golds under his belt, Jordan Burroughs is one of the world’s best freestyle wrestlers.
Born in New Jersey, Burroughs was the first person in his family to take up wrestling after hearing about a local club while he was still in elementary school. He was just five years old when he started training, but quickly showed that he has the skills and attitude to go far in the sport. He enjoyed a successful college career, competing for the University of Nebraska and winning the Hodge Trophy for the best college wrestler in his final year at the school. Burroughs’ international career started in 2011, with gold medals at the Pan American Games and the World Championships. Since then he has dominated the freestyle wrestling scene, with a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games, World Championship wins in 2013, 2015 and 2017 and six World Cup gold medals since 2012. Despite injury struggles throughout 2013 and 2014 he continued to win medals and shows no signs of slowing down, with wins at the 2019 Pan American Games and the Pan American Championships.
In 2016 Burroughs competed at his second Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, once again proving himself as a formidable competitor on the scene. He continues to appear at competitions around the world, most recently at the 2020 Pan American Championships in Ottawa.
