Joshua David Duhamel was born in Minot, North Dakota, on November 14, 1972. His early life involved studying biology at Minot State University with aspirations of becoming a dentist, eventually earning his Bachelor’s degree in 2005. Before his acting career, Duhamel worked in construction and ventured into modeling, which ultimately led to his entry into show business. He won the title of Male Model of the Year in an International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA) competition in 1997. His modeling background segued into acting when he was asked to audition for a role, paving the way for his career.
Duhamel’s acting career began in television, where he gained initial recognition. He starred as Leo du Pres on the ABC soap opera “All My Children” from 1999 to 2002, earning a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2002. Following this, he took on a prominent role as Danny McCoy in the NBC crime drama “Las Vegas” from 2003 to 2008. His transition to film included his big-screen debut in “Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!” in 2004 and subsequent roles in films such as “Turistas” (2006). A significant turning point in his career was being cast as Captain William Lennox in the “Transformers” film series, appearing in four installments from 2007 to 2017. He also hosted the Kids’ Choice Awards in 2013 and has taken on various roles in both film and television.
Over the years, Duhamel has expanded his work to include producing and directing, notably with “Buddy Games” (2019), which he also co-wrote. His filmography spans romantic comedies like “When in Rome” (2010), dramas such as “Safe Haven” (2013) and “You’re Not You” (2014), and action films. He has also lent his voice to animated series and video games, including “Fanboy & Chum Chum” and “The Callisto Protocol.” Beyond entertainment, Duhamel is an entrepreneur, owning a restaurant in his hometown and serving as a spokesman for North Dakota tourism, demonstrating a diverse range of professional engagements.
