The brilliant sportsman Josh Giddey is a professional basketball point guard, who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA. At 19 he became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, and also became the first player since 1961 to record three consecutive triple-doubles as a rookie. He also represents his native Australia on the international stage, and helped the U-17 side win Gold at the 2019 FIBA Oceania U-17 Championships.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Giddey emerged as one of his country’s top basketball prospects with the NBA Global Academy at the Australian Institute of Sport. He impressed at the 2019 Australian U-18 Championships, helping his side VIC Metro to the title, and the following year helped the NBA Global Academy win the Torneo Junior Ciutat de L’Hospitalet in Spain, earning himself the MVP honours.
Giddey turned professional in 2020 when he was signed by the Adelaide 36ers of the NBL, becoming the first Australian player to be a part of the league’s Next Star Programme to develop NBA draft prospects. He had an impressive season with Adelaide and was named NBL Rookie of the Year. He then declared for the 2021 NBA Draft in the United States and was subsequently selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder in July, going on to make his NBA debut in October. He was an instant hit and quickly became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double. In 2022 he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second team.
Giddey regularly connects with his hundred of thousands of followers and fans through Instagram, and Twitter, posting pictures and comments about his life both on and off the basketball court.
