About

Judith “Judy” Torres was born on June 13, 1968, in The Bronx, New York City. She grew up as the eldest of five children. Her musical career gained momentum with early club successes. Her debut single, “No Reason to Cry,” a love-themed freestyle track, was written by Mickey Garcia and reached position #30 on the Billboard Hot Dance Charts. This was followed by other club hits such as “Please Stay Tonight,” “Come into My Arms,” “Love Story,” and “I Love You, Will You Love Me.” Her first album, “Love Story,” released in 1989 through Profile Records, featured a collection of freestyle songs, including “Weakness of the Body,” originally recorded by Mariah Carey. Her second album, “My Soul,” was released in 1992 and contained songs like “Every Little Lie.”

Torres has transitioned into a radio personality, having been an on-air figure at New York’s WKTU 103.5 for over 17 years. She currently hosts a show on Sundays from 3 PM to 8 PM. In 2001, her song “Back in Your Arms Again” became a club hit, reaching #7 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. In 2004, she released “The Air I Breathe” under Robbins Entertainment, a Hi-NRG song produced by Tony Moran, which made it to the Top 40 of the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, peaking at approximately #30. During a live performance at The Star Lounge in Chelsea, New York City, promoter Steve Sylvester formally recognized her as the “Queen Of Freestyle.” In late 2005, her cover of Journey’s “Faithfully” became a requested song on WKTU, reaching #1 on their charts. She released “I Don’t” in 2007 and “Hell, No,” an anthem for abused women, in 2008.

Beyond music and radio, Judy Torres has engaged in acting, appearing in the 2012 film “Elliot Loves” as Aunt Nani. In 2018, she debuted her one-woman off-Broadway show, “No Reason To Cry,” with multiple performances in New York City. She is also a recognized certified master life coach and motivational speaker, sharing insights and advice on her podcast, “Beautiful Life with Judy Torres.” Her contributions to music and media have been recognized with her upcoming induction into the Bronx Walk of Fame during Bronx Week 2025. She continues to perform and maintain an active presence in the entertainment industry.
